Nurseries & Pre-Prep School

Sancton Wood Nurseries and Pre-Prep are situated in a beautiful Victorian building with a large, child-friendly garden, at Number 17 Station Road, Cambridge.

Nicola Henson is our Head of Nurseries and Pre-Prep.

We are unique in Cambridge, offering high class provision for children from age one to seven years on our Station Road site – and then from seven years to G.C.S.E in Sancton Wood Prep and Upper.  Our Nurseries and Pre-Prep aim to inspire each girl and boy to be the best that they can be within a nurturing, safe, happy and stimulating environment, by providing an education of the highest quality.

Progression through Sancton Wood Nurseries and Pre-Prep is as follows:

Baby Unicorns’ Nursery:  provides a warm, caring and stimulating environment for children from one to two and a half.

Rising Three’s Unicorns’ Nursery Class: provides for children of approximately 2 ½ onwards who move on from Baby Unicorns.

Pre-School Unicorns’ Nursery Class:  As the name implies, this Nursery class caters for children who will be four years of age by the end of the academic year (August 31st).

Reception Class: Children who will attain their fifth birthday during the academic year will flourish in our Reception class.

Year One Class: is for children who will be six before the academic year ends.

Year Two Class: is the final class in Nursery and Pre-Prep, and continues to provide a happy and stimulating environment for our 6-7 year olds.

All of our classes are small with an excellent adult to child ratio.  Our staff are highly experienced and extremely well qualified.  Every teacher holds a degree and P.G.C.E. Our Nurseries have a staff team comprised of Early Years Teachers, Graduates in Early Years and Child Development and Level 3 and 4 in Children’s Care, Learning and Development.  We are proud of our very carefully selected, knowledgeable staff, and of their contribution to the children’s excellent levels of achievement.

The Independent Schools’ Inspectorate Report (2018) sums us up this way:

“The overall effectiveness of the early years provision is OUTSTANDING.”

“The effectiveness of leadership and management is OUTSTANDING.”

“The quality of teaching, learning and assessment is OUTSTANDING.”

“The outcomes for children are OUTSTANDING.”
