Enrichment

Education is about more than what happens in the classroom. A well-rounded academic provision must also include a wide variety of extracurricular opportunities and we deliver this in style across the school with a really exciting and inspiring enrichment programme.

Students are offered opportunities to explore and discover over 100 activities which allows them to delve into areas that interest them the most in practical, fun and exciting ways.

The programme offers activities across:

  • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) from Rocketry to Artificial Intelligence and Robotics to Young Medics.
  • Creative Arts and English which allows our students to experience areas of the arts and get an insight into what a career might be like both on the stage, dancing or as part of an orchestra or behind the scenes song-writing, doing the stage make-up or designing the costumes or set.
  • Sport: developing skills or learning new ones in areas such as rowing, self defence, Equestrian NSEA or yoga.
  • Humanities: Exploring topics such as The History of Art, Archaeology and Mineralogy, Environmental Ethics, Weather and Horticulture and Introduction to Politics. Virtual Reality headsets help bring studies into Ancient Civilizations to life.
  • Languages and Culture from Chinese Calligraphy to Flamenco Dance.
  • Debate and Discussion – introducing topics such as feminism and philosophy.
  • Plus activities such as a The Big Bake Off Club, Gardening and Mindfulness.

The breadth and diversity of this programme will give students access to a whole host of new experiences, help them to develop a range of interests and skills and build a sense of confidence that will support them in the classroom and beyond.

Career Development

We encourage and develop our students to be the very best they can be so that they can thrive beyond Sancton Wood, flourish in further education or apprenticeships and ultimately provide great preparation for future successful careers. Alongside opportunities from our partner InvestIN who deliver immersive career experiences, Year 10 students will have access to a wide range of visiting speakers, all of whom will talk about their area of work, ranging from engineering to entrepreneurship; fashion to filmmaking.

Student Leaders

We recognise that pupils have logical perspectives and opinions on issues that matter in the classroom, in the school, and in the community and offer many opportunities for them to put this into practise and encourage a ‘pupil voice’ with our pupil leadership programme. This includes groups such as the Student Council, Charity Committee, Anti-Bullying Ambassadors and Cambridgeshire Student Forum. It gives pupils an active role in influencing decisions about these issues as well as in the implementation of them, enabling them to participate as active young citizens.

Advanced Programmes

We also offer advanced programmes in English Science and Maths to stretch our highest achieving pupils in these areas.

Our activities help pupils to develop ‘intellectual curiosity’ and enable a ‘community of fun and energy’ – these are core values at the school and we encourage all of our children to take full advantage of the opportunities available – there’s something for everyone.
