Thriving Minds Conference

Thriving Minds

On Tuesday 26th March, 13 students from Y7-9 went to the Academy Learning Conference at Kimbolton School. The aim of this conference was to stretch and challenge students by improve their thinking skills; identifying assumptions; distinguishing between good and poor arguments; and thinking systematically and rigorously about relevant modern-day issues.

The first session of the day introduced the idea of genetics, epigenetics, transhumanism and ethics. This was then followed up by the Ring of Gyges Challenge taken from a classic text by Plato. Students had to discuss the scenario and answer the enquiry questions in mixed school groups. They then had to feedback their ideas to the rest of the conference. The afternoon was spent preparing for a debate on the motion: this House believes that science has replaced God. The students contributed admirably and spoke with confidence when arguing their points.
