It is my favourite time in the whole school year – the time when Sancton Wood goes a bit book crazy!
This year we have decided not to ask the children to do a sponsored read for Readathon in the run up to Book Week. We thought that parents would appreciate not having to continually be asked to put their hands in their pockets for charitable causes and we are very aware that it is you who has to pester all the relatives to get sponsors together. We will be doing other bookish events during Book Week that will raise money towards Readathon instead.
Instead of the sponsored read we will be doing The Big Book Challenge throughout the whole of February. All children and staff are being asked to participate! All children will come home with a Big Book Challenge sheet – different sheets for each department – and they need to complete different challenges on the sheet by the end of Book Week (4th March.) The number of challenges they complete will vary from child to child. As well as this, the children are being asked to read as many books as possible and complete slips for each book they read as before.
- – my new creation to help motivate the children; do come in and have a look! –
For the past two years doing Readathon and Book Week has really proved to be a great incentive in motivating the children to read more. I hope that you will help support this year’s activities by really encouraging your children to join in with the events and get reading.
The full details for Book Week will be out later this week.
Happy Reading!
